Festiniog Railway 4-wheel Brake Van
FR 4w Brake Van

This kit represents the first brake vans used on the Festiniog Railway, three of which were introduced for the advent of passenger traffic around 1864. It is believed that the Festiniog Railway workshops at Boston Lodge built them. They spent their entire working lives facing the same way, i.e. with the balcony at the downhill, or western end of the train, and were used to brake rakes of descending goods stock, which formed the first part of downhill Festiniog trains during the 1860-80 period.
